Chapter 35 – Who is she?

Nef’s POV

Sasha was in the bathroom brushing his teeth when his phone rang.

“Sasha! Phone!” I shouted toward the bathroom.

”Can you get that for me?” he yelled back.

”Hello,” I said into the phone without looking at the caller ID.

”Um, Hello? Sasha?” the female voice on the other end of the phone asked. She was clearly surprised that a woman had answered the phone.

”He’s brushing his teeth. May I ask whose calling?”

”Nadiya.” the voice said.

”Babe, its Nadiya.”

Sasha rinsed his mouth and walked toward me, talking the phone.

”Hi Nadiya,” he said. ”I’m sorry, I can’t go this weekend. I’m in the US until next week…Sure I’ll go when I get back.”

I went about getting dressed. Sasha and I had just finished breakfast and we were about to head out to spend the day walking around Las Vegas. Sasha hadn’t been before and wanted to see some of the tourist attractions. We’d had slow, sleepy sex this morning as the sun rose. I had awoken to Sasha sitting on the side of the bed looking at me. We’d cuddled together but that quickly led to him trailing his hands over my body as I attempted to fall back to sleep. On normal morning when we awoke together I always had coffee first but it had been too long since we’d last been together. That was followed by breakfast in bed with Sasha “accidentally” spilling syrup on me. He spent the next 10 minutes licking it off my skin.

“You didn’t spill it there,” I said as his tongue began to tickle me.

“No, but you taste good.”

”Who was it who answered my phone? My girlfriend…yeah, we’ve been together about 8 months. I’m here with her.”

That made me smile. I didn’t know of many of Sasha’s friends outside of the guys on the team. I did know that at home he didn’t talk about me to very many people. He wanted to keep his personal life as far away from the media as he could. He telling his friends and taking me to the awards show with him let me know that he wanted me to be a part of his life.

I had already introduced him to all the important members of my family – mom, dad, and brothers, grandparents. He told me that when I came to Russia in July he wanted to introduce me to his Russian friends and his extended family.

“You meet the ones that not come to America to visit,” he said. “You know Constantine but you not know Yuri.”

”Nadiya I have to go. I’ll talk to you later.”

Sasha and I went on a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon. That took up most of the morning and by the time we got back Ovie had texted us asking us to go to a late lunch with him. He had finished up the round of morning interviews and activities – it was mostly dealing with the foreign media. The American media circuit was slated for the day of the awards show. Tonight there was a poker tournament in the Palms Casino that both Ovie and Sasha were attending.

We went to one of the restaurants in the Bellagio. It was called Yellowtail. When we arrived Ovie was already there with Mike Green. He’d gotten in this morning.

“Nef! How have you been?!” he asked, hugging me.

“Good, enjoying the summer as much as I can.”

Conversation was light. They actually managed to talk about something other than hockey for a little while. So far none of the guys had started their summer training regiments.

“You two seem close,” Mike said referring to Sasha and myself. Sasha’s hand was resting on my thigh and it had been there since we sat down.

“Yeah, we are.”

“That’s good. You guys seem happy.”

We are happy. My feelings for him had grown exponentially. He was a huge part of me and I hoped that I was a huge part of him.

Sasha's POV

My phone rang again. I looked at the caller ID and it was Nadiya...again. This was the 4th times in the last 2 days that she had called me. After the first few times I put my phone on vibrate so that it wouldn't bother me or Nef. This trip was about us. Each time I talked to Nadiya I told her that I would talk to her once I got back to Russia. She apologized and said that she was lonely with me gone. Nadiya and I had been best friends when we were kids. Since we lived in the same neighborhood and were the same age our mother bonded and we did to. I remember being sad when I left for hockey school because Nadiya couldn’t come with me. We wouldn’t be in the same class anymore.

When I left for DC she went to college. We kept in touch infrequently over the years so when my mom told me that she was moving back to Krasnoyarsk I would be the one tasked with helping her get used to being home again I was excited.

"Sasha! What are you doing?" I heard Nef ask.

"Nothing...waiting for you to finish up in there." Nef had been taking a shower for the last 45 minutes.

“Can you grab the small black make up bag out of my luggage please?”

I got the bag for her but she only open the door a crack, just enough for me to slip the bag through.

“Hurry up or we be late,” I said through the door. She grumbled something about beauty takes time. We still had plenty of time before we had to be seated for the NHL awards ceremony but we had dinner reservations. When she finally came out of the bathroom she was wearing a strapless, skin tight, black slip cover, black stilettos, and her jewelry.

“Where your dress?” I asked.

“I’ll put it on just before we leave.”

Now if you have ever watched a woman get dressed then you are probably aware of slip, almost lingerie things that they were under their clothes. Sometimes they are kinda hideous looking – designed to keep all the not so flattering parts tucked away – but there are other times when they are the sexiest thing you’ve ever seen.
The one that Nef had on could have doubled for a super short, skin tight, strapless, cocktail dress…not that I would have every let her out of the house in just that but it was sexy.

She had taken the time to pin her hair in loose curls on the top of her head so that the column of her neck was bare except for the spirals that strategically framed her face and neck. She had on long diamond drop earrings to accent it. Instead of a necklace there was a sparkling bracelet on her wrist. Her makeup was subtle. It highlighted her beautiful features instead of covering everything.
She walked up to me and tied my bow tie for me as I put on my cuff links.

“How much time until we have to leave?” She asked

“15 minutes.” I had arranged for a car service to take us to the restaurant and then to the ceremony at the Palms Hotel and Casino.

She pulled her dress from a garment bag hanging on the back of the bathroom door. It was a strapless Ocean Blue chiffon dress that had a short hemline in the front and a tapered long and flowing hemline in the back. It was layered and the bottom so that the dress moved like ocean waves when she walked. (AN: Picture of dress at the bottom of this chapter.). She turned and asked me to zip the dress for her and I couldn’t help but to place a kiss on her shoulder.

“You look beautiful,” I whispered, pushing all thoughts of Nadiya and my annoyance with her to the back of my mind.
